Research Experience for Undergraduate Students (REU)

In this program, we will support undergraduate students to participate in a ten-week summer research internship in the Summer Multicultural Access to Research Training (SMART) program at the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO.

Activities

Selected students will spend 10 weeks at JILA and participate in the SMART program. The program will start at the beginning of June (the exact date TBA). The main program activities include carrying out research under the supervision of a faculty mentor, professional development workshops, and social activities. 

  • Week 1
    1. Program orientation;
    2. Introduction to faculty mentors and research environment;
    3. Beginning of research project.
  • Weeks 2 ~ 9
    1. Working on research projects with faculty mentors;
    2. Workshops on technical writing, oral presentation skills, and the selection/application process for graduate school;
    3. Cultural and outdoor activities;
    4. Attending LANS.
  • Week 10
    1. Final preparation for oral and written presentations;
    2. SMART research symposium;
    3. SMART poster session.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate students enrolled at FIU, US citizen or US permanent resident.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Resume, a personal statement, one recommendation letter, and transcript are required to apply.
